If we focus on negative events from our past, we will be affected by those events the same way as if they were happening now. How can we change what we think about, so we don't get stuck on our past? The best way to do this is to change our focus. If we don't have anything worthwhile to focus on in the present, then our focus turns to re-living our past. The best way to change what we focus on, is to give ourselves something worthwhile to focus on. Ask yourself:
How can I be of service to others?
What am I passionate about?
What lights me up and excites me?
Once you can answer these questions, focus on your answers. I'm not saying you have to quit your day job and launch a business in the areas that excites you, although this is one option, it is not the only one. Another option would be spending two days per month volunteering in a field that you are passionate about and that excites you. If we don't have something to focus on in our future, we will be defined by our past events.
